ABOUT ISCHIA
Ischia (pronounced ISK-ee-ə ) is a stunning, green volcanic island in the Bay of Naples Thyrrenian Sea, South Italy, renowned for its therapeutic thermal spas, sandy beaches, and the historic Castello Aragonese. As the largest of the Phlegrean Islands, it offers a quieter, more authentic alternative to Capri, featuring lush, mountainous landscapes, ancient villages, and excellent cuisine, making it perfect for a relaxing break.
Inhabited since the Bronze Age, founded as a Greek Emporium in the 9th century BCE, Ischia became a popular travel destination for European nobility during the 19th Century. It developed into a well-known artist colony at the beginning of the 20th Century, when it attracted writers and painters from all over the world. Spa tourism resumed in the early 1950s.
Today, Ischia is an internationally significant tourist destination, welcoming up to six million visitors per year from around the world. The island is particularly known for its thermal spa facilities ideal for joint pain, rheumatism and respiratory tract ailments; Mediterranean cuisine, and the presence of high-end accommodation.
